Agriculture & Small Business
Maskiot residents are building a strong, diversified economic base to enable the community to thrive.
The Jordan Valley's unique climate -- strong sun radiation and below average rainfall (resulting in low infestation) -- has made agriculture the region's leading economic sector. Maskiot residents have already planted groves of date, olive and argan trees which potentially offer a substantial return on investment.
Four small businesses (originally from Gush Katif) operate in Maskiot, and several others have expressed a desire to open in Maskiot to further strengthen the economic base.

| Jordan Valley Women's Small Business Center & Incubator
Of particular interest to us is to stimulate small business development among the local women. As there are few job opportunities nearby and many of the women are young mothers and need to be close to home the need to also provide employment for them is crucial. Our goal is to initially build a 100 square meter structure that would house all the small businesses under one roof.

Particularly prevalent are date palms, whose special irrigation methods combined with the unique climate of the region have made them a viable industry in the Jordan Valley.
