Security & Emergency Services
Located in an outlying area, Maskiot is surrounded by sizable numbers of illegal Bedouin and Palestinian Arab squatters. There have been innumerable incidents over the past few years whereby squatters have illegally taken over state-owned lands. Additionally, the community's rather remote location and its proximity to the border make it vulnerable in terms of possible terrorist intrusions.
Israel's Defense Ministry, Home Security Command, Ministry of Construction and Housing, and the Jewish National Fund have recognized Maskiot's unique security needs. The Government is constructing a physical-electric fence around the built-up community's perimeter, and the Jewish National Fund has constructed the required patrol road along the entire route of that perimeter fence, which has the result of expanding the community's land base ten-fold.
The community has created an overall plan for enhancing its security and emergency services and has identified three specific items that it requires for protecting the immediate area and providing assistance to nearby communities.

the community's safety and well being.

| Security Camera Perimeter System
We need a system of six (6) cameras and infrastructure to significantly enhance the Rapid Response Team's viewing and defense capabilities, to include the items delineated forthwith: three mobile cameras and three (3) stationary cameras which have the capability of moving from side to side. The cameras will be connected by electric wires to the Monitoring Center which will have two (2) LCD screens for monitoring suspicious movements of would-be intruders.

Flock of Sheep and “Australian Fence” to Enclose Grazing Land
The long-term goal of the community is to establish a flock of eight hundred (800) sheep which will both strengthen Maskiot's economic base and enhance the community's security. Phase I of the "sheep" project is to purchase 50 sheep and to improve the preexisting sheep shed.
